yesterday i over ate. it sucked because i woke up with awful pangs in my belly. i had made about half a gallon of parsley-mint tea the day before so after i had my daily glass of apple cider infused water i served a glass of the tea. it does have it’s calming effects that felt soon enough in my abdominal area. but i wanted something else so i started rummaging through my fridge and i found a quarter of a small papaya from my parents backyard, ginger and my trusty ol’ hemp milk. almost without thinking i took a saucepan and grated the ginger in it and the papaya that i had turned into a mushy pulp with my own bare hands. i turned on the range and added a bit of coconut xtra virgin oil and let it all simmer til it started to boil. at this point i poured about a cup, maybe a bit more of the hemp milk and freshly grated nutmeg. i whisked it consistently for over four minutes til it was creamy and frothy, served it in a porcelain cup and added just a lil’ bit more of the nutmeg. as i lifted and put the warm beverage against my lips and took the first zip, the warmth that inundated my soul was so enveloping that i felt as though it was my grandmother(RIP) giving me a hug. this cozy yet energizing beverage lifted my spirits and i stopped drinking just in time to snap a photo of it but to also share the precious liquid with my beloved. she put up a wrinkly face when she saw it but i coaxed her into drinking it. her face changed into a smile when she did. i’ll be doing this more often and i encourage you all to try it and share with a loved one. have a great thursday people of the earth!
p.s. my tummy troubles are no more. :)
whoa today’s april 9. about 14 years ago on this day but a monday nite i had my first taste of the cooking life. i guess that because i was a rookie i had to clean the overhead every single monday. as i was metiendole elbow grease a la “campana” i slipped and my left hand (i am left handed) fell into the deep fryer which i had turned off 15 minutes before but that had been on since like 8 in the morning. i spent like almost 3 months in the hospital and my hand all the way to the elbow is scarred for life. but this is not a sob story, as soon as the doctor said i could work i went back into the kitchens of san juan. i knew cooking was what i wanted to do forever. so here we are 14 years later still kicking it! i have a lovely battle scar in my fave hand/arm, i’m still cooking and won’t stop!!! #cooklife #neverwenttochefschool #learnedtheoldschoolway
i like to cook
my left hand can feel hot or cold more intensely than the right one. it also tends to hurt more at night, ‘specially when i wake up. still gotta keep using ‘em.
i’ll keep cooking til i can’t. this is what i do. it makes me completely thankful to be in a place where i can feed people and make their growling bellies happy.
have a great day my lovely tumblr peeps :)
